Remembering Norm Picov

Ajax Downs, Thursday, April 13, 2023 - Community, family, philanthropy, and his beloved horses. These were some of the most important things to Norm Picov, a man determined to grow the sport and community he loved in his hometown of Ajax. Taking the reins from his father Alex Picov in 1952, one of the founders of Quarter Horse racing in Ontario, Norm transformed his family's farm, Picov Downs, into a state-of-the-art Quarter Horse track and casino known today as Ajax Downs.

The Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency (CPMA) is advising the Canadian horse racing industry of upcoming changes to the Elimination Guidelines (EG). Veterinarians and trainers should adjust their treatment protocols before the changes described below come into effect on April 3, 2023. The EGs on CPMA’s website will be updated at that time.

Carol and Jaime Robertson's Ontario homebred HAD TO BE IVORY was named the 2022 Quarter Horse of the Year at the Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario and Ajax Downs awards banquet at the Ajax Convention Centre on Saturday, February 18. This was the first in-person awards ceremony for the Quarter Horse community since 2019.

AJAX DOWNS OCTOBER 7, 2022 - Ajax Downs hosts its popular Thanksgiving Monday card on October 10 highlighted by the $50,830 Alex Picov Memorial Championship, a 770-yard 'hook race' and a pumpkin giveaway for the first 100 kids to decorate. Fans on track might also catch a glimpse of the 'Headless Horseman' during the afternoon. The first of nine races goes off at 12:55 p.m.
