The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) announced that the results of two days of additional testing indicate that containment and mitigation measures are working to contain the neuropathogeniclogical form of EHV-1 to a single barn at Woodbine Racetrack.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) continues to monitor cases of the neurotropic strain of EHV-1 present at Woodbine Racetrack. On May 17, the AGCO reported two thoroughbred horses that resided in Barn 12 at Woodbine had tested positive for the disease, and ordered a number of measures be put in place to address the situation.
On May 17th, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has confirmed that two horses residing at Woodbine Racetrack have tested positive for the neurotropic strain of EHV-1. Both horses are 2-year-old thoroughbred horses that resided in Barn 12 at Woodbine.
On the evening of May 8, 2020 a stranger knocked at our door and told our family that he could see smoke coming from our barn. Hockley Hills School of Horsemanship & Aitchison Show Horses’ fulltime training facility, breeding, riding school and summer camp operation was on fire with 19 horses inside!
Our horses live in a large bank barn with the door always open to their paddocks. Over the years, their whereabouts would often surprise me. Once during a particularly nasty storm with driving winds and icy rain, I found them all outside with their tails to the wind, tinkling with ice. Conversely, on pleasant summer afternoons, I would often find them all in the barn. My observations seemed contrary to conventional turnout practises, so I decided to track my horse’s location by GPS.
Ontario Racing has received applications for more than 5,000 racehorses from horsepeople across the Province and is happy to report that cheques are now being distributed.
