It is with great sadness that CQHA delivers the news of the passing of Gaëtan Laroche, 1941 - 2020. A dedicated horseman who wore many hats in his decades long involvement in Canada's Quarter Horse and Reining industries.
On the evening of May 8, 2020 a stranger knocked at our door and told our family that he could see smoke coming from our barn. Hockley Hills School of Horsemanship & Aitchison Show Horses’ fulltime training facility, breeding, riding school and summer camp operation was on fire with 19 horses inside!
On account of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Alberta has banned all gatherings of more than 15 people for an indefinite period of time and the City of Calgary has declared a state of local emergency. These steps, as well as our continuing concern for the health and well-being of our community, means we are unable to host the 2020 edition of the Calgary Stampede.

The museum frequently hosts musicians playing during the Saturday farmers’ market held in the adjoining car park (in the cooler months), and also hosts a BBQ and concert during the annual Parada del Sol rodeo and parade in early February.
