One of the biggest lessons we need to learn in training horses is to wait on them. Waiting on the horse means giving the horse the opportunity to process what we are asking of him and let him make a choice. When you first start training the young ones they are learning, everything is new; they need to be shown what we want them to do and get the release when they do it, so they know they got the right answer.
Wow, what a show!!! What a fantastic weekend we had at the Steel City Slide at the Ancaster Fairgrounds! The weather was pretty fantastic (a little too hot on Sunday but hey – it’s summer!) Over 100 horses competed in various classes over three days. We paid out over $30,000 to winners and handed out over $10,000 in prizes.
Herning, Denmark – Tiffany Foster of Langley, BC, placed 12th in the Individual Final on Sunday, August 14, at the ECCO FEI 2022 World Championships in Herning, Denmark. Foster, 38, was the only Canadian to qualify for the two-round Individual Final. After three days of jumping, the top 25 riders from the original starting field of 103 qualified for the first round with the top 12 moving forward to a second round to determine the individual medals.

Traverse City, MI, August 12, 2022 – The Children’s Jumping Team of Mathilde Candele, Livia Martin, Taylor Wood and Tristan Tobin captured the gold medal in an exciting two rounds and jump-off on August 11 at the North American Youth Championships (NAYC) in Traverse City, Michigan.

Hyde Moffatt of Brantford, ON, successfully defended his title in the $50,000 RBC Grand Prix held on Saturday, July 16, at the Ottawa Summer Tournaments at Wesley Clover Parks in Ottawa, ON. Having won the feature event in 2021, Moffatt returned to the winner’s circle one year later with the same horse, Donjo. Proving his domination of the event, Moffatt also took second place with Grafton. Both horses are owned by Ariel Grange of Cheltenham, ON.
For the second week in a row, François Lamontagne of Saint-Eustache, QC, won the Open Welcome at the two-week Ottawa Summer Tournaments at Wesley Clover Parks in Ottawa, ON. Having scored victory in the $20,000 Giant Tiger Open Welcome on Thursday, July 7, Lamontagne repeated his winning ways by topping the $20,000 Soltek Equestrian Open Welcome on Thursday, July 14. His mount for both wins was Chanel du Calvaire, his 14-year-old Belgian Sport Horse mare (Luccianno x Kashmir van Schuttershof).
