“We are incredibly grateful for the Ontario government’s investment in our programs,” said Brenda Langendoen, Executive Director of Horse Sense for Kids.
Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, joined Brenda Langendoen, Executive Director of Horse Sense for Kids; Mike Britton, Board Member of Horse Sense for Kids, and Marvin Junkin, Mayor of the Town of Pelham, at B’N’R Stables in Fenwick, to announce $112,000 in funding received through the Resilient Communities Fund of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
“Horse Sense for Kids has been providing at-risk children and vulnerable youth with a safe place to be mentored and develop life skills since 2003,” said MPP Oosterhoff.
“This provincial funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation will support the horse therapy program at B’N’R Stables, helping young people develop mental wellness and self confidence.”
The grant through the Resilient Communities Fund is supporting the purchase of a therapy horse and staffing costs over two years. The Resilient Communities Fund supports community-based organizations that deliver programs and services in Ontario, helping build organizational capacity, resilience and sustainability.
“We are incredibly grateful for the Ontario government’s investment in our programs,” said Brenda Langendoen, Executive Director of Horse Sense for Kids.
“This grant allows us to expand our services and reach more young people who can benefit from the healing power of horses. The impact of these experiences is profound, helping children overcome personal challenges and build resilience.”
Horse Sense for Kids provides at-risk children and vulnerable youth with meaningful connections and relationships through horsemanship programs and traditional riding skills. Horse Sense for Kids partners with organizations including Pathstone Mental Health, Family and Children’s Services Niagara and the District School Board of Niagara.
“Non-profit organizations across Ontario deliver programming that makes a difference,” said Hon. Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming.
“That is why funding that my Ministry is providing through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. Our government wants to ensure that these programs and spaces remain the heart of communities across our province.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, the Ontario Trillium Foundation invested more than $110 million into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
