“We’re excited to partner with Ontario Equestrian to enhance the equine health and welfare,” said Kristy Laroche

Newmarket, ON – October 30 2024 Ontario Equestrian (OE) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Equine Register Canada (ERC), which will transform the health management experience for horse owners across Ontario. In a first for the North American market, this collaboration introduces a practical, digital solution designed to improve horse care, safety, and management.

Equine Register Canada is a recognized leader in animal health management. In the UK it manages the Central Equine Database (CED) and National ChipChecker on behalf of the UK government and holds 1.7 million equine records.

Through the partnership, OE members will have access to exclusive member benefits through Equine Register’s Digital Stable platform, providing secure and efficient ways to manage their horses while staying connected to the wider equestrian community.

Key benefits of the Ontario Equestrian & Equine Register Canada partnership:

1/ Ensuring every horse has an Identification for their whole life

ERC ensures that a horse's key identification information, such as age, breed, microchip and other identification numbers, is centralized and follows them for their whole life.

2/ Advanced biosecurity measures

Members benefit from enhanced biosecurity through Equine Register’s Digital Stable platform which provides real-time health and safety alerts and manages key health documents. The Digital Stable is directly connected to Global Vet Link ensuring equine infectious Anemia Results (Coggins) information is easily accessed and shared.

3/ Safeguarding Canada’s equines

ERC also has robust lost and found functionality. If a horse goes missing, owners can report it through the Digital Stable, marking the horse as ‘missing’ on the system. Conversely, if a stray horse is found, it can be checked through the National ChipChecker and the owner contacted, all in a couple of clicks.

4/ Exclusive features & updates

Members can look forward to new tools such as improved ride tracking, vaccination management and comprehensive health records, as well as future updates like natural disaster alerts and competition result tracking—all designed to enhance and simplify horse health management for owners.

“We’re thrilled with the benefits this partnership will bring to our members,” says Tracey McCague McElrea, Executive Director of OE. “Together with Equine Register Canada, we are committed to making horse health management for the whole herd easier, more efficient and more enjoyable for horse owners across Ontario.”

Dr. Melanie Barham DVM PMP MBA added “This partnership is a fantastic example of the way our industry is moving forward in the future, and health is at the forefront.”

Christine Reupke, Director of Equestrian and Breed Sport at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Horse Show, said: "By working together and combining our expertise and resources, we are ensuring a stronger, safer future for equestrian sports and the wider industry. It’s exciting to be part of an initiative that will benefit everyone involved in the equine world."

What Our Clients Think

  • Horses are more secure and comfortable when trailering if they can face the rear, but they prefer openings.
