Ancaster Fairgrounds - August 26 – 28!

Wow, what a show!!! What a fantastic weekend we had at the Steel City Slide at the Ancaster Fairgrounds! The weather was pretty fantastic (a little too hot on Sunday but hey – it’s summer!) Over 100 horses competed in various classes over three days. We paid out over $30,000 to winners and handed out over $10,000 in prizes.

Highlights include:

Friday – Rookie Shootout – with $1,000 in added prizes it was an exciting Rookie class!

1st place: Christine Baranowski on Whizkey Dunit Shiney - $650 in prizes and a trophy

2nd place: Jennifer Skilling on Gun Collector - $250 in prizes

3rd place: Alyssa Vankleek on SSSnowgottaprettygun- $100 in prizes

Christine also gets an automatic seat at the table for an exclusive online event with Gil Friedman of Mental Athletics. Matt Mills credits Gil with helping him win his classes, we have run two programs with Gil and we are sold into his techniques! Four other Rookie Shootout riders will be randomly drawn to take Gil’s exclusive session.

Saturday - Derby

$10,000 added monies to the derby and the event was sponsored by Morse Wealth

OPEN LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 4 WINNER – Chet Martin riding Gunna Slide Me Again, owned by Heather Ruthven, taking home $2,890.64, a Morrison and a Lawson

2nd place LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 4 – Jon Newnham riding Lil Mizz Jo owned by Josi Stratford took home $2237.22

NON-PRO LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 4 WINNER – Cara Brown riding Like My Whizkey, owned by Cara, taking home $2,848.13, a Morrison and a Lawson

2nd place LEVEL 4 – Todd Sherrer riding Wimpy Dunit Shiney, owned by Todd, takes home $1371.76.

2nd place LEVEL 1 – Hayley Stubbs riding Shezaten owned by Hayley, takes home $843.35

Saturday Night

The Brown Family and Alice’s restaurants sponsored the Competitor’s dinner and kids under 13 dinner respectively, everyone enjoyed their dinner and listened and danced to the awesome band, Detour!

Ranch Classes

We had TWO ranch classes - Friday and Sunday, sponsored by Reiners Ridge and Britt’s Tack Shop. Both were exciting and we’ll be doing more next year! Jenn Shaw riding Whizzin Onacancan won the Friday class, and Jennifer Skilling riding Gun Collector won the Sunday class.

Green Reiner Circuit Series Champion and Youth Rider Circuit Series Champion!!!

Ella Kendall won the J&J Reining Inc Youth Circuit Series Champion, sponsored by Amber Riehl and Ricky Ramey, trophy sponsored by Jessie Dorland-Marchant.

Ashley Janzen won the J&J Reining Inc Green Reiner Circuit Series Champion, sponsored by Stetson Stables for the series and the trophy.

Maturity Sunday

For horses aged 8 and older, the Maturity riders competed for $3,000 added monies. The Maturity was an add-on class and ran concurrently with the Open and Non Pro. The Maturity was sponsored by Western Rawhide and Jim Taylor Custom Saddlery

OPEN LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 4 WINNER – Alex Simoes riding SS Guns N Roosters owned by Chet Martin $920.22 2nd place LEVEL 1 and 4 – Bill Thomas Jnr riding Not Wowza owned by Ron Lubinski, taking home $716.19

NON-PRO LEVEL 4 WINNER – Todd Sherrer riding Surprizingly Smart owned by Dareth Miller, took home $600.00

NON-PRO LEVEL 1 WINNER – Christine Baranowski riding Whizkey Dunit Shiney owned by Christine, winning $232.16

2nd place LEVEL 4 – Dan Fletcher riding Wimps Enterprise owned by John & Sharon Fletcher tied with Heidi Nelson riding They Call it Chrome, owned by Heidi. Each took home an additional $200.00

2nd place LEVEL 1 – three-way tie: Dan Fletcher riding Wimps Enterprise owned by John & Sharon Fletcher, Becky Ros riding Spookin N Whizin owned by Becky, and Heidi Nelson riding They Call it Chrome, owned by Heidi. Each took home an additional $94.58

**All Maturity winnings are on top of the Class winnings.**
